Individualized Psychological Treatment:

I work with adults (18 years and over), where my focus in treatment is to view each individual as unique, with an emphasis on taking the time to understand a client’s individual needs, and to provide treatment that is in an understanding and client-centered environment. My approach is eclectic but with an emphasis on cognitive-behavioural therapy, relaxation therapy, exposure-based therapy and chronic pain management. Psychological treatment is in a safe, confidential environment, with an emphasis on identifying maladaptive behaviours and thinking patterns, and to assist in developing more effective coping strategies through treatment and education. At the end of the initial consultation, a preliminary diagnosis (if applicable) is provided to you and recommendations for treatment are discussed.

Telepsychology For Treatment Intervention:

At times, while an individual recognizes the need for psychological treatment intervention, they are limited in their ability to do so. This can be due to a variety of reasons including physical injuries that reduce their ability to travel to appointments, a busy work schedule and need to get home to family and responsibilities, limited available transportation, simply too many appointments to attend, and unable to find a registered psychologist in your area.

Telepsychology is the delivery of psychological services using secure internet technology. Telepsychology sessions provides services similar to the level provided in face-to-face consultation. The primary advantage of Telepsychology services is ease of access in terms of travel and scheduling.   The service I use for this form of intervention is compliant with the regulations and conditions set forth in the Health Insurance Portability and Availability Act (HIPAA), the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

We will provide assistance in setting up and testing the platform prior to your first session.

Due to jurisdictional issues, while accessing telepsychology services through Dr. Voorneveld’s practice, you must be a resident of Ontario and living or traveling in Ontario.

Privacy and confidentiality policies, laws and professional standards that apply to regular, in-office psychological services also apply to telepsychology services. An informed and signed consent will be obtained to proceed with this service.

Contraindications that may impact on the decision to pursue telepsychology would be if you are experiencing severe chronic and/or severe mental health conditions.
